Friday and Saturday at the Samboree

Friday was a full day of activities and most of our chapter participated in the games.  We had played "31" first thing in the morning and I (Pam) was in the finals.  I made it through to the final 4 and we then had to have two extra playoffs because we had ties.  I took 4th, darn it!
The next game was singles cribbage ..... Shirley was concentrating hard.

Mike and Kelvin were at the same table but playing different opponents.   You might recognize Di Smith at the table, too!

The third game of the day was Zilch and I caught Gary playing at one of the tables with Ken from Reno Renegades.

Mike was rooting on Susie as she tried her best not to Zilch.

The last game of the day was Mexican Train.  There were 8 people at every table so the competition was intense!  Randy and I played at the same table but Rita (left of Randy) won at our table and went on to the finals.

A little practical joke was going to be played on "King Ken" for Saturday night.  Randy had found this old commode and asked me and Susie to "decorate" it!  Since I had plenty of beads left from the Mardi Gras it was the decor of choice!

Saturday morning we were fed a wonderful pancake breakfast and then we got to play beanbag baseball.  Gary captained the team and we had a great time.  The picture shows our team, minus Randy and me.

Verna had lots of good base running today. We kept winning!  We won all our games and were the 1st place champions - can you believe it?  We had a lot of fun cheering each other on.

Since Gary is our President he participated in the Nevada State Meeting.  This one was open to the members so we had quite a few people in the audience.
After the meeting it was time for the Theme Parade.  This year it was "Sock Hop"

What an imagination people had in interpreting this theme.  This is Judy from Reno Renegades dressed up as a sock!
Unfortunately, Gary and I had to leave before the Samboree was over so the rest of the details we will need to get from the rest of the group.  I asked Mike S. to take some pictures so when he sends them to me they will be posted on the blog.  Remember, anyone can send me pictures of chapter activities and I will try to use them.

Thur - Copper Hills Places in Each Event!

Today the games began at 8:30 am with "Washers" so there was no sleeping in for us.
The first round pitted Gary against me (Pam) so we knew one of us would go on to round two.  It happened that my partner, Smitty, and I went on to the next round, but lost to Mike and his partner.

Mike was in the final 3 teams so we knew he would get an award.  As it was he and his partner came in second place so Copper Hills won their first award!

The next game was "Sequence" and we had quite a few members make it through the first two or three rounds.  Shirley came in 3rd place so we now had our second award of the day!
The last game of the day was "Cribbage Doubles."  Again, we had several members make it through the first few rounds but Gary and Verna ended up playing for the championship.  Verna took 1st and Gary took 2nd.  Our winning streak was continuing!

At the opening ceremonies in the evening we had our chapter members sitting together while Gary and I got ready to present the chapter flag.  Verna, Susie, Mike, Mike & Dave can be seen here.  Randy & Shirley were coordinating some of the activites (they are on the state staff) and Kelvin was helping sell the 50-25-25 tickets.  She and I have volunteered to sell them each day as some of the state staff was missing.

Gary and I had a chance to say something about Copper Hills when we presented our chapter flag.

During the program tonight some additional prizes were awarded.  Mike & Susie won a gift certificate to a local restaurant and Dave & Verna won a $25 certificate to Camping World.  We hope to keep up the winning ways at the games tomorrow!  Wish us all luck at "31", Cribbage Singles, Zilch & Mexican Train!

Off to a Good Start at the Samboree in Pahrump

The early birds had a bocce ball contest pitting chapter against chapter.  Copper Hills had a good showing with Mike and Gary representing the chapter.
After winning the first round Mike and Gary played a very good team from Over the Hump Travelers.  It was close but they won by 1 point!

The championship playoff was with a team of Members at Large.  They fought to the end but came in second.

Congratulations and handshakes ended the final game.  It looked like a lot of fun.

We now had all the members in camp that would be here for the Samboree so we had a potluck for dinner.  We always seem to do a good job cooking for potlucks!

Dave, Gary, Verna, Kelvin & Shirley

Gary, Mike, Susie & Mike are ready to eat!

I finally got a picture with Randy & Shirley, even if they were busy eating!
We held the potluck at Dave & Verna's site as they had a lot of extra room as well as a nice barbecue grill for all of us to use.
Tomorrow the games begin!  We'll be ready to play washers, sequence & doubles cribbage as well as opening ceremonies.  Good weather is forecast so we should have fun!
